Specializing in reproductions of 17th century furniture and
woodwork

This chest follows the form of what has come to be termed a 'six-board' chest, but with some unique features. A reproduction of an original piece made in the Plymouth, Massachusetts area, (possibly Marshfield), it has carved and applied ornament particular to South Shore work. Like most chests of the type, its back, side, top and bottom boards are made of sawn pine. It's front however, is made up of two pieces of riven oak, a broad upper piece and a narrower drawer front below. The larger board is fastened to the sides with oak pins, rather than nails, and the case is fitted with applied moldings. |
