17th century working methods demand a 17th century sense of time!  The process of choosing, designing, constructing and finishing a piece of furniture in this fashion requires many man-hours.  Heart of the Wood is a two-man operation - the number of pieces that can be produced in a year is limited.  Please allow for these facts if you are considering a commission requiring a specific date of delivery.

The process involved in the production of a piece takes about 2 months on average (longer for large and/or elaborate pieces), plus whatever work is ahead of us. We generally have from 2 to 4 months worth of work ahead of us at any given time.

Prices vary from piece to piece, owing to the individual nature of work done by commission. The cost of a piece is chiefly determined by the amount of joinery, the complexity of the decoration, and the choice of materials.

The examples below are intended to give an indication of some basic costs for custom pieces. They comprise only a partial list of the furniture forms available from Heart of the Wood. These base prices are for pieces having some simple decorative molding and turning, but without any carving (except for bible boxes).  The addition of carved decoration can add from $50 and up to the cost of a piece, depending on the nature and extent of the work.   These prices are examples only - we will be happy to quote you a price for any particular piece you might be interested in.  Quoted prices are valid for 90 days.
