These pieces represent a combination of table-and-seating common in the 17th century. The joined forms (benches) are just elongated joint stools. The trestle table is a simpler, lighter form than the square-framed table, and can be made to be disassembleable (as in this case), allowing the top to be lifted off and set aside, and the trestles to be removed from their connecting stretcher. |
