Specializing in reproductions of 17th century furniture and
woodwork

This wall box is based on an English original at Plimoth Plantation. It is a simple piece, a nailed-up box fitted inside with shelves, and decorated on the front with simple incised-and-punched decoration. The door is fitted with a pair of hand-made 'cockshead' hinges. London guild regulations forbade the carpenter from making joined furniture, but permitted the making of "boarded" furniture. It is likely, though, that many sorts of woodworking artisans made simple pieces like this. |
