Specializing in reproductions of 17th century furniture and
woodwork

Boarded boxes like this are commonly referred to today by the 19th century term 'Bible box'. This is somewhat misleading, as they are never so-called in the period, and were undoubtedly used to store everything from books and papers, to writing supplies, small articles of clothing, and valuables (the originals are most often fitted with locks). This example is modeled after an English original, and has a carved motif peculiar to work found in the county of Yorkshire in England. |
